What's going on...beneath the surface?
Beneath the Surface is a Christian fiction novel in the genre of suspense/thriller. It involves mystery, intrigue and spiritual warfare. A small town police chief and his family encounter some mysterious events that turn the once quiet, rural town upside-down. They're not sure who can be trusted as they find out that things aren't always what they seem. In order to get to the truth, in order to get to the heart of the matter, you have to get beneath the surface. Customer Reviews:Donna E. writes: "Derrick, I just finished your book. I really liked it. Boy was it intense and scary. I couldn't read it only in spurts, cause it was so frightening. The only other author that has ever effected me like that is Dean Koontz. I don't read too many of his!!! My favorite character was Hank. I enjoyed all the North Country scenarios. I will look forward to another book someday!!!"
Dianne B. writes: "Beneath the Surface" is a thriller/suspense novel that adds spiritual warfare into the mix. It relates the importance of in-depth Bible knowledge as we strive to discern between good and evil: Christians must know Scripture well enough to recognize when it is being incorrectly represented. Derrick writes also of dark forces, deception, and of man's desire to make sense of it all. He emphasizes the importance of relationships while illuminating both their benefits and their dangers. For the most part, the plot is smooth and the characters are well-developed. The story, however, is not for those who prefer to avoid horror; they should probably forgo reading this book." Debbie G. writes: "I finally got a chance to read your book. I took it on vacation with me. Good job! Very descriptive. You definitely put the reader right there. Steve was a great character. You really showed spiritual warfare on a grandiose level but also on an every day level with Steve's relationship with Andy. I'm proud to know the author. Have you ever looked into putting it in book stores here under the local author section?" Gene W. writes: "A riveting mystery drama with a phenominal spiritual twist. Centering around a rural upstate New York community which tests its inhabitants in their faith, hope and love of God. Descriptive and graphic throughout the story. It keeps the reader emotionally interested to the end. Would make an excellent movie. Hoping for a sequel or more novels by this newest Christian author." |
Don B. writes: "Hi. I wanted to let you know I finished your book. It took me five-and-a-half hours; three one day and two-and-a-half the next. One adjective best describes Beneath the Surface-TREMENDOUS. There are not enough words in our language to describe this novel. I have read hundreds of books in my 78 years and may God give me the eyesight to read more; especially if there are more like yours. I liked the Left Behind series and other Christian books by Graham, John MacArthur et. al. I've read study books galore and have taught Sunday School (men's) for 30 years. Bring on another one. If I can help in any way to get your book distributed let me know. I have already passed my copy on; with a promise of divine wrath if not returned, so I can pass it on again. Just a couple of liberties: your descriptive adjectives were also great. When one entered a scene they knew what room they were in, what the crime scene was. The questions: who, what, where, when and why were always answered. I used those questions in teaching the Gospels, managing a radio station, being a cop, etc. Again, thank you for writing a great novel. That scene near the end...WOW. Looking forward to seeing you again. Keep writing. God will bless you." Sheree A. writes: "I loved the book. When Chief Billing's son Bryan is missing, it reminded me of Stephen King's "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon". Very suspenseful. I could picture the woods as they were all running through them, because of his (Derrick's) great details. I have to admit, I had to jump ahead a few chapters to find out what happened. But I did go back and read them. The author used such good details that it was if you were right in the story with the family. I am a retired Deputy Sheriff so I could relate to some of the police officers' concerns and thoughts, especially about criminals. The author did his homework when he was gathering information from the real Potsdam Police Department." |
